New Orleans is truly a magical place that is near and dear to my heart. The architecture, culture, history, and spirit are incredibly intoxicating to the soul.
This is my first installment of NOLA taken on our honeymoon in October of 2011. These moments were captured during the peak of Halloween season.
Bourbon Street is Fascination Street and rightly so. At one end of the strip – absolute chaos and debauchery. At the other – a relatively calm neighborhood with familiar facades and architecture. This is one of my favorite shots simply because it was shot as is – no filter or corrections. The colors are bizarre and unique.
Fascination Street
The best New Orleans experience begins with its culture and inhabitants. The artists, performers, and buskers breathe life into the streets. This experience can be accomplished by simply wandering the streets of the French Quarter. One morning, we stumbled upon jazz musician and talented clarinetist, Doreen Ketchens. Doreen and a group of musicians were performing to a small crowd, and this young boy began to join in with what I believe was his father’s trumpet. The boy was fascinated by Doreen, and we were able to capture the moment. These are the moments I love most about this city.
New Orleans is one of those mystical places where one can always go to visit but can never reside. It is very near to my heart. I long for it the moment I leave. I crave it the longer I am away.
I do know what it means to miss New Orleans.
Until next time…
